Mock Driving Test tips

Ahead of your Mock Driving Test, review all notes, drawings, and diagrams that your instructor may have given you during your lessons. Also, the feedback sheet examiners use on the test should be reviewed. You can view a copy here.

Learners often ask, “Do driving examiners intentionally fail you?”. There is nothing to suggest that driving examiners have a quota in place. It is among the many driving test myths circulating in the learner community.

Many learner drivers fear the test examiner when taking the driving test. Generally, it is a misconception that driving examiners are rude or mean to the learner. Part of the training process for examiners set out by the DVSA is to deal with the driving test candidate appropriately—always being polite, clear, and professional. Go into your driving test with an open mind.

Tips for new drivers

Here are some driving tips that are excellent for all drivers, but especially new drivers:

  • Always obey the speed limit. This gives inexperienced drivers time to react if they experience a challenging scenario
  • Do not follow too closely behind other drivers. Follow the 2-second rule!
  • Assume other drivers will not act as they should. For example, do not assume he is turning if a driver has his turn signal on.
  • Review the junctions before proceeding at a green light to ensure it is clear.
  • Avoid distractions by keeping your mobile phone silent until you arrive at your destination.
  • Avoid loud music
  • Do not drive with friends in the car until you feel confident
  • NEVER drink and drive. You are NOT the exception.
  • Turn on the headlights when necessary, even during the day. This will increase your visibility and prevent you from forgetting to turn them on.
